Deputies say a 12-year-old Newton County student is facing a misdemeanor charge at school for a toy gun

A 12-year-old Newton County student has been charged with a crime after authorities say he brought a toy gun to his middle school.

Officials say a Liberty Middle School student was arrested Monday by Newton County deputies.

A teenager is accused of possessing a weapon in a school safety zone, which is a crime. The case will be transferred to Juvenile Court.

This is the fourth Newton County student arrested in October.

Last week, a 13-year-old Liberty Middle School student was charged with terroristic threats and acts. AND A 12-year-old girl from Clements Middle School he was arrested and charged with making threats on the Internet a week earlier.

A 14-year-old boy from Alcovy High School he was arrested on October 21 after officials said they found a knife in his backpack.
