The fiancé of a 31-year-old father of three, murdered by an ex-convict who was released from prison on low bail, speaks out

The granting of low bail to repeat offender and ex-convict Thomas Briscoe changed Addyson Bennefeld forever.

“I just don’t think people realize how something like this really impacts people’s lives,” she said.

When Briscoe allegedly murdered Addyson’s fiancé, 31-year-old Jacob Trevino, he was released on $30,000 bail.

“For two crimes, for someone who had just gotten out of prison, it just didn’t seem right to me,” said Andy Kahan of Crime Stoppers.

“He was Jacob’s best friend,” Addyson said. – I mean, he was like his best brother.

Addyson claims Jacob tried to help Briscoe after a bullet confined him to a wheelchair.

Police say the two went out the next day and Briscoe stabbed his friend at 6000 Sugar Field in Katy.

Addyson says he doesn’t even know why.

“Thomas just said I was tired of being disrespected,” she said. “I don’t know how you could do this to someone. You’re in our house, you were in our house last night. Shooting someone means a quick reaction and a quick decision. But stabbing someone is me. I mean, it’s so personal.”

Jakub’s mother lost her youngest child.

“I know I’m mourning, but my heart breaks for them too,” Addyson said.

“Maybe if the bail had been higher, he wouldn’t have been thrown out and Jacob Trevino is alive and well today,” Kahan said.

Addyson blames the revolving door in Harris County Criminal Court for leaving three children without a father.

Aria Trevino only knew her father for a few months.

“OK, they let me go this time, let me change something. You don’t want or care to change your life, why?” Addyson said.

“You have another family that is basically bearing the brunt of what I call the attachment pandemic,” Kahan said.

Briscoe is now back behind bars with bail set at $350,000.
