Ukraine says nine people injured in 19th Russian air attack on Kiev in October

KIEV – The 19th Russian attack on Ukraine’s capital this month injured nine people, set several apartments on fire and destroyed a kindergarten, authorities in Kiev said on Wednesday.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia fired 62 drones overnight, but air defense units destroyed 33 of them over Kiev and other regions, although 25 were unaccounted for.

“Nineteen air attacks on Kyiv in October!” – said the head of the Kiev military administration, Serhiy Popko, in the Telegram messenger. “At night, Russian drones flew over the capital again.”

Falling debris from a destroyed drone caused a fire in a multi-story apartment building in the western Solomyansky district of Kiev, injuring at least nine people, including an 11-year-old girl, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram.

“Everyone was treated on the spot by doctors,” Klitschko said.

19 people were evacuated from the building, said the city’s military administration, which also posted photos of the building with broken windows and a damaged facade, which it described as a kindergarten in Solomianski.

Reuters witnesses at the scene saw firefighters trying to extinguish flames in apartments in an apartment building where several windows were blown out.

Air raid alerts were sounded throughout Kiev, surrounding areas and almost the entire eastern half of Ukraine for more than two hours at night. REUTERS
