How to apply for school choice programs in Palm Beach County

To run the application, which is available online at www.mypbchoiceapp.comstudents must have a student ID number and a current address. Their address will be used to determine whether they are within the school’s attendance zone for programs offered only to students at that school.

Palm Beach County offers two types of specialized education programs: self-directed elective programs, which are available only to students who are assigned attendance zones for this school, and programs that are available to all students regardless of where they live.

Auditions are required for consideration for the following programs:

  • Artistic Junior High School in Bąk: All programs
  • North Palm Beach Conservatory School (grades 6-8): Orchestral and string programs
  • Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of Art: All programs
  • Boynton Beach High School: Dance, digital media, music (including band and vocals), theater and visual arts
  • West Boca Raton High School: Dance, digital music (including band and vocals) and theater (including acting, music and technical programs)

Although each student can only submit one application, they can apply to two programs and rank them by interest to increase their chances of being placed in the program of their choice.

In 2018, over 36,000 students applied for choice programs. About half of these students were placed in one of these schools, although in many cases it was not their first choice. For the most selective schools, such as Suncoast High School and Bak Middle School, a 2018 Palm Beach Post analysis of enrollment in choice programs found that the chances of placement were much lowerfrom 19% to 36% depending on the program.

Lottery results for placements for the 2025-2026 school year will be released on April 4. Parents will then need to accept their student’s assigned seat on the district’s online dashboard.
