LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A 20-year-old man allegedly shot another man in the throat at a grocery store during a fight over a vehicle collision, according to documents obtained by 8 News Now.

On October 20 at approximately 3 p.m., the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at a store located at 3700 Paradise Road, near Twain Avenue. Upon arrival, officers said they found a man named Darrnell Worthy and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

Worthy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff. The arrest report shows that the woman was also taken to a nearby hospital, where her condition was last described as critical.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage and discovered a blue Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on Sands Avenue at Las Vegas Boulevard when it was involved in a minor accident with a Kia Soul.

Erik Morales, 20, who was driving a Chevrolet, then drove into a convenience store parking lot with an unnamed woman to buy drinks. The report states that while they were waiting in line, video shows Worthy, the Kia driver and the second victim arrive at the same parking lot and enter the store.

Worthy was then seen confronting Morales for hitting their car and failing to stop, then punching Morales in the throat, police said. The report states that Morales responded by grabbing Worthy by the throat and pushing him to the ground.

Officers said Morales then pulled a gun from his waistband and shot Worthy in the back as he tried to stand up.

The video shows Morales firing several shots, then gathering his belongings and leaving the scene in the company of an unnamed woman, police said.

With the help of LVMPD undercover detectives, they located Morales’ vehicle, hidden under a tarp, with the license plate removed. Detectives then witnessed Morales return to the vehicle, put the license plate back on and drive away.

Police said they detained Morales and took him into custody, where he was charged with voluntary manslaughter, attempted murder and robbery.

Morales’ next court hearing is scheduled for December 18.
