Matthew Sluka officially enters the transfer portal after a dispute with NIL

Now it’s official. Quarterback Matthew Sluka enters the transfer portal.

How On3’s Dan Morrison as reported, this officially marks the end of his career with the UNLV Rebels, but Sluka unofficially resigned from his team much earlier in the season when he decided to leave the program due to a dispute over the NIL guarantee.

Was apparently offered $100,000 from offensive coordinator Brennan Marion to come to UNLV from Holy Cross in the offseason. It was a verbal offer that UNLV did not honor as no formal offer was received from head coach Barry Odom or UNLV’s NIL collective.

Sluka’s agent informed UNLV that he intended to withhold payment, to which the Rebels responded “no.”

The player’s representative, Matthew Sluki, demanded money from the university and his NIL collective so that they could continue playing.

“UNLV Athletics has interpreted these demands as a violation of NCAA pay-to-play rules as well as Nevada law. “UNLV does not engage in such activity or respond to alleged threats,” UNLV said in a statement. “UNLV has honored all previously agreed scholarships for Matthew Sluka. UNLV has conducted due diligence and will continue to operate its programs within the framework of NCAA rules and regulations, as well as Nevada law.”
