An Etowah County judge encourages young people to get involved in elections

ETOWAH COUNTY, Alabama (WBRC) – Etowah County elections officials are preparing for a large turnout at the polls on Tuesday, November 5.

Etowah County Probate Judge Scott Hassell says this election is a great opportunity for young people to learn how to serve others.

Judge Hassell talks about getting involved and learning how government actually works. In Etowah County, he says 60 students will participate in this year’s election as poll workers, including 18-year-old high school seniors and registered voters working regularly as poll workers.

Hassell says this is a great opportunity for young people to take what they learn about democracy and apply it to real life.

“At training a few weeks ago, I always tell the kids how important this is and how important what they are doing this particular year is. It may not seem like a big deal to them today, but participating in this election has the potential to be a historic election for us as a nation. They are starting to become part of history,” Hassell said.

Judge Hassell says he has more than enough election workers for Tuesday night.
