A woman who reportedly threw a drink in the faces of several people at the Geneva Bar & Grill in April 2023 after a song she paid for was left off the jukebox, leading to a fight with multiple people that ended with shots fired, was arraigned Wednesday sentenced to a suspended sentence and remained in prison.

Desiree Nadine Klemp, 29, of Owatonna, pleaded guilty in August to one count of disorderly conduct – fighting or fighting, a misdemeanor, after initially being charged with third-degree riot and two counts of fifth-degree assault related to two different victims.

In addition to one year of supervised probation and 90 days in jail, Freeborn County District Court Judge Christy Hormann ordered Klemp not to use or possess firearms or dangerous weapons, stay away from the Geneva Bar and have no contact with, among other things, with victims.

Footage obtained from the bar shows Klemp started a fight when she threw a large drink and a cup in the faces of several people standing at the bar after a song she paid for was left off the jukebox.

Klemp stated in her petition that there was a “general fight” that resulted in someone knocking her to the ground, after which she reacted badly and started waving at the person.

The fight eventually spilled outside, where Dustin Smitty reportedly fired shots into the air in the parking lot and then fired at a vehicle that was driving away. He pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree assault, one for each of the two people in the vehicle who were shot at, and was sentenced to three years and three months in prison.
