New York State Police released an October 30 affidavit identifying the mother as Chianti Means and her children as Roman Rossman and Mecca Means.

The report stated that the mother and her children “crossed” the “guild security barrier” and “walked through” the waterfall, and that the incident was “intentional in nature.”

Member of the New York State Police he said in an interview with WKBW TV: “We came to the conclusion that the 33-year-old mother, the nine-year-old son, and then the five-month-old boy fell over the waterfall. We believe this was intentional, however the circumstances of this investigation and the circumstances of what actually happened are still under investigation.

“But we know they did a thorough search based on information we received from the park police and some information we were able to obtain from a number of different sources around Niagara Falls, as well as evidence we were able to uncover in the search warrants.

“They went there and never left. So that’s what we mean. (…) Like I said, there’s a lot of guardrails at the state park, a lot of safety measures, so it’s not something that W tripped over.”

The official noted that they “may be able to” find out and “resolve” the circumstances surrounding why the family fell into the waterfall, or “we may never find out.”

However, the police do not believe that “other parties were involved in the case.”

A press release from the New York State Police reads: “New York State Police and State Police conducted search/rescue with negative results. This incident does not pose a threat to public safety.

“New York State Police Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems, NYSPP Maritime Patrol, NYSP Aviation, Underwater Recovery Unit, Niagara Falls Police Department and Niagara Charter Schools are assisting in the investigation.”
