Former Missouri City Police officer charged with manslaughter in fatal crash

Former Missouri City Police officer involved in the case fatal accident of mother and son in June he was charged with unintentional manslaughter.

Blademir Viveros, 27, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of manslaughter and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

On June 20, Mason Stewart, who had just turned 16, was driving a 2005 Toyota Vorolla with his mother, 53-year-old Angela Stewart, and had just pulled out into traffic. Missouri State Police Officer Viveros responded to a report of an armed robbery at an ATM on Cartwright Road.

Missouri City Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the incident and determined that a Missouri State Police SUV driven by Officer Viveros was traveling eastbound when it struck Stewart’s 2005 Toyota Corolla. Stewart failed to yield the right of way when leaving a private driveway and was struck by a police vehicle. According to the investigators’ findings, the emergency lights in the police car were not turned on at the time of the accident.

Both mother and son died on the spot.

Two hours after the crash, 53-year-old Michael Hawkins was found in the backseat of a police SUV with serious injuries.

Missouri City Police Chief Brandon Harris commented on the incident, expressing uncertainty about the man’s identity and how he ended up in the police car. Chief Harris also refrained from revealing whether the man was handcuffed.

His bail was set at $250,000 for each count of murder and $300,000 for each count of aggravated assault. His total bail is set at $800,000.
