A man is in jail after shooting a Nashville officer during a domestic violence incident

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – A man is in jail this morning after shooting a Metro Nashville Police officer during a domestic violence incident.

MNPD says the incident happened at 2:30 a.m. Thursday on Plus Park Boulevard. An MNPD officer saw suspect John Carney chasing a woman and threatening to kill her.

Police said that as the officer approached the woman, he heard a gunshot. The woman told the officer that Carney was armed.

The officer told Carney to drop the gun. He fled by throwing his 9mm pistol into a wooded area. The weapon was later recovered by an ATF dog.

Authorities arrested Carney without incident. He is accused of domestic abuse, aggravated assault and violent assault on an officer.

The officer who arrived at the scene was not injured by the gunfire.
