Former Housing Minister Obaidul Moktadir arrested in Mirpur

Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, former Minister of Housing and Public Works, was arrested this evening (October 31) by the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the capital’s Mirpur area.

DB chief Additional Commissioner of Police Rezaul Karim Mallick confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

A former minister has been arrested in a murder case filed in connection with the death of a madrasa student in a clash between the Awami League and members of Hefazat-e-Islam in Brahmanbaria in 2021, the DB chief said.

The case was reported to the Sadar police station on August 234 this year, after the Awami League-led government collapsed in the face of a mass uprising.

Obaidul is also a former legislator from Brahmanbaria-3 constituency.
