Pembrokeshire: Benjamin Guiver jailed for 20 years for ‘horrible’ attack and sexual assault on woman in Goodwick

A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for brutally attacking, strangling and sexually assaulting a stranger in his own home.

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, suffered serious injuries in Goodwick, Pembrokeshireon the evening of May 24 this year.

Benjamin Guiver, 34, from Fishguard, was arrested near his home shortly after the brutal attack.

A family member of the victim, who had returned home during the attack, intervened and was also injured.

Dyfed-Powys Police praised the bravery of the victim and the family member who intervened and chased Guiver from the house.

Chief Superintendent Matthew Briggs said the woman was “severely injured” and “extremely distressed”.

The victim told police he didn’t think he would survive the attack.

She said she fell asleep watching TV and when she woke up, she saw a man in her living room.

He said his name was Benjamin and he had come “to save her.”

The victim asked who he was, but he replied, “don’t ask any questions or I will kill you.”

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the woman fled the property but Guiver grabbed her, punched her and dragged her back inside by her hair.

It was then that he sexually assaulted her.

“Haunt me for the rest of my life”

Police said Guider had previously tried to enter another nearby home.

He was later charged with sexual assault by penetration, grievous bodily harm with intent, willful strangulation, entry with intent to commit a sexual offence, threats to kill and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He pleaded guilty to all offenses in July and was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on Thursday.

In a statement, the woman said she was “a shell of her former self” and felt “lost, unsafe and upset.”

She said her life had “turned upside down” and she “no longer felt safe in her own home”.

“I want so much to return to some normality in my life, but I know that what happened will haunt me for the rest of my life,” she added.

Jessie Walling, of CPS, said in a statement: “The physical and sexual abuse this woman suffered at the hands of a complete stranger in her own home was horrific.”
