Former nursing student at Hong Kong’s top hospital remanded in custody for allegedly stealing over HK0,000

A former nursing student at a top private hospital in Hong Kong has been remanded in custody for allegedly stealing more than HK$100,000 ($12,870), credit cards and phones from patients and colleagues.

On Friday, 27-year-old Leung Ho-fung was brought to the Eastern Court, where he was charged with nine counts of theft and six counts of obtaining property by fraud.

He was under no obligation to speak beyond confirming that he understood the charges because the prosecutor’s office asked for the hearing to be adjourned for more than seven weeks to allow police to conduct further investigations.

Leung is accused of stealing an iPhone 15 Pro Max, 11 credit cards and HK$9,000 from seven men and two women.

According to the indictments submitted to the court, five of the alleged theft cases took place at a sanatorium and hospital in Happy Valley, Hong Kong, between September 19 and October 19 this year.

The prosecutor’s office did not specify the time and place of the other four alleged thefts.
