Chad Allford: Police used ‘reasonable’ force before cocaine-related man dies

The IOPC said the actions of the three officers who did not turn on their cameras would be “taken into account in a reflective practice review process”.

It said the sergeant who conducted the search “should have undergone reflective practice.”

On Thursday, coroner Susan Evans said she would write a Preventing Future Deaths report to Derbyshire Police on the level of knowledge officers need in similar situations.

A spokesman for the force said: ‘Our thoughts remain with all those affected by Mr Allford’s death – especially his family and friends.

“While the IOPC did identify performance issues in relation to the activation of body-worn video cameras, as well as the stop and search of another person unrelated to the drugs investigation, none of these points had any bearing on the circumstances leading to Mr Allford’s death.

“We will now take the time to carefully consider the outcome of the investigation, as well as to prevent future death reports from being produced once they are received, and to make any necessary changes and improvements.”
