Two Buffalo Police officers were injured early Thursday morning while responding to a report of a trespass on Blake Street.

According to a news release, District E officers were responding to a call for help when they saw a man and a woman in the back of a vehicle in the driveway.

They ordered the vehicle’s occupants to unlock the doors and open the windows. Instead, the man jumped into the driver’s seat and started the vehicle, police said.

The driver then drove recklessly back and forth in an attempt to escape, including driving through bushes and a fence and striking a pole in the yard of a home on Kerns Avenue, police said. Ultimately, both defendants were arrested when the vehicle stopped. Police said they also found about 2.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a scale and $1,823 in cash.

Police said Larry Rogers, 34, of West Seneca, resisted being handcuffed during his arrest. Rogers was charged with second-degree assault; first-degree reckless endangerment; two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree; third-degree felony; second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia; second-degree obstruction of government administration; and resisting arrest.

Kayanna Lee, 23, of Buffalo, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance; second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia; and second-degree obstruction of government administration.

The press release did not identify the two officers who were injured while trying to arrest the defendants. They were taken to Erie County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, as were Rogers.

The investigation remains ongoing.
