Rapper Lil Durk arrested in Florida on murder-for-hire charges

Oct. 25 (UPI) — Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Durk, considered the creative leader of Chicago’s “drill” hip-hop scene, was arrested and held without bail in Florida on murder-for-hire charges, jail records show.

Jail records show that Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, was booked into the Broward County Jail in Florida on Thursday by U.S. Marshals. obtained by multiples media outlets.

The 32-year-old’s arrest came on the same day that it was revealed that several other members of his hip-hop collective “Only the Family” were arrested as part of a federal indictment in California for allegedly attempting to carry out a revenge killing in retaliation for the death of an OTF member 2020

Without specifically mentioning it, the information contained in indictment Thursday’s disclosure makes it clear that the shooting victim was Dayvon Daquan Bennett, also known as “King Von,” who was part of OTF and collaborated with Lil Durk on music, according to to NBC News.

Bennett was killed at an Atlanta nightclub on November 6, 2020, after a physical altercation with a person identified only as “TB.” An OTF member identified as “Co-conspirator 1” then stated that he would pay a reward to anyone who participated in the TB murder for their role in the nightclub killing, the prosecutor said.

“TB” is likely a reference to rapper Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Terrel Bowman, Variation reported.

Five collaborators of Lil Durk’s collective have been charged with a botched August 2022 TB murder attempt in Los Angeles. Although TB was not killed in this attack, another person identified as “SR”, possibly Saviay Robinson, was killed in this incident, leading to “murder for hire resulting in death” charges being brought against three OTF members and two others.

Durk is widely considered the founder and most influential member of the Chicago-based “drill” rap music genre, which includes other successful artists such as Chief Keef, Lil Reese and G Herbo.
