Rockford man identified as suspect shot by DeKalb Co. deputies

DEKALB COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) – Authorities are releasing the man’s identity shot on Wednesday by DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies.

Abram Perez, 42, of Rockford, is said to have been behind the wheel of the vehicle involved in the Rockford shooting.

Deputies report they chased Perez to Rich Rd., west of Nelson Rd. in DeKalb Township, where they used stop sticks to deflate the car’s tires.

According to the sheriff’s report, Perez had a gun and hostages in the vehicle. A negotiator was brought in and after a few hours the hostage was released and did not suffer any injuries. Negotiations continued until authorities reported that Perez fired at law enforcement. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says deputies returned fire, killing the suspect.

Illinois State Police are investigating the incident. The DeKalb County Coroner’s Office says Perez’s cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results.
