One person dead, 4 injured after boat bursts into flames at Dania Beach marina – WSVN 7News | Miami news, weather, sports

DANISH BEACH, Florida. (WSVN) – A boat burst into flames at the Dania Beach marina, killing a man and sending four other people to the hospital, authorities said.

According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, the incident occurred Friday near 4470 Ravenswood Road around 4:30 p.m.

The marina is the Nautical Ventures Marina & Service Center, located west of Interstate 95 and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The man said he was riding his bike nearby when he heard an explosion that almost knocked him off his bike.

A Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crew responding to the scene encountered heavy flames and smoke billowing from a parked boat that had just been delivered to the marina.

The 50-foot vessel was on a trailer when it caught fire, and officials said it was scheduled to be displayed at an upcoming boat show.

Dark, billowing smoke was visible from miles away. Cellphone video captured smoke billowing from the northbound lanes of Interstate 95.

The services reported that the boat caught fire while refueling.

A man working at another shipyard said fiberglass may have caused the fire.

Area resident Russell Kennedy told 7News he described what he saw when emergency services arrived.

“They got together and kept showing up, and one young lady, unfortunately, I saw her break down and have to sit down,” he said. “She was clearly crying, I mean, obviously without knowing, maybe it was even just a friend.”

The services managed to extinguish the fire. They are currently working to ensure there are no hotspots.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene pronounced one of the victims dead.

7The Skyforce and cell phone crew recorded video as they placed the patient in the ambulance and left the scene.

Crews transported two of the surviving victims to Broward Health Medical Center and the remaining two to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment for gunshot injuries and burns. The extent of these injuries is unknown.

The 7News crew encountered several employees who were unsuccessfully trying to get into the marina.

Authorities closed Anglers Avenue at 42nd Street, right next to the marina. They are urging drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Law enforcement and the fire department are investigating the incident.
