all the Christmas plot clues

all the Christmas plot clues

EastEnders follow spoilers.

Over the years EastEnders has become synonymous with the holiday season, especially the most important episode of Christmas. Nothing says Christmas like death, divorce, failure and betrayal, right? While some people tune in once a year to catch up on the soap’s latest seasonal offerings, many loyal viewers can’t wait for their favorite storylines from the past 12 months to come to a dramatic climax.

The best example of this is last year’s The Six storyline, where Christmas 2023 was announced ten months in advance. Viewers found out thanks February flashback that one of Square’s men would die at the Queen Vic and Sharon, Denise, Linda, Suki, Stacey and Kathy were involved.

Millions of viewers watched the big reveal on Christmas Day and found out about it during the stunning episode Linda killed Keanu.

Christmas 2024 has a lot to live up to, and in comparison, this year’s plans are being kept under wraps. It hasn’t been revealed what the soap’s big Christmas story will involve this year, but there are some clues that will keep fans guessing until December. Here’s everything we know so far.

Current stories

Cindy Beale, junior, Eastenders

BBC

The most obvious example of a current plot that could explode on Christmas Day is Situation Cindy Beale and the Younger Knight. The pair began having an affair earlier this year – even though Junior is the son of Cindy’s ex-wife George. Although Cindy was drawn into the dangers of an affair, it became clear that Junior had very real feelings for her.

Things came to a head earlier this month when Ian decided to propose to Cindy, unaware of her huge betrayal. But outside the engagement party, Cindy and Junior were spotted kissing by her ex, David Wicks who briefly visited Walford. In a candid conversation with David, Cindy admitted that it was George she truly loved and even thought about him when she was in bed with Junior.

Shortly thereafter, Cindy ended her affair with Junior for good. But at some point it turned out that Freddie’s birdwatching microphone captured Cindy and David’s debunking discussion.

Nish Panesar, Eastenders

BBC

It seems inevitable that this damning material will come to light at some point, and why not on Christmas Day? We may soon see a repeat of the infamous 2007 Christmas episode where Stacey and Max’s romance was revealed to the Brannings and Slaters on their wedding DVD.

Of course, the iconic storyline surrounding The Six has yet to be fully explained, almost a year after the Christmas spectacular. Half of the Square seems to already know that Linda killed Keanu, but the women are still trying to keep the main secret a secret. They could be in serious danger next week Nish learns the truthbut Christmas might be the perfect time to end this epic story.

Queen Vic’s drama

Alfie, people from the east

BBC

Since soaps are filmed several months in advance, EastEnders the cast has been filming some exciting Christmas episodes recently and we have the biggest hint yet that the Albert Square Christmas period could be a must-see for fans.

I’m talking to Radio timesShane Richie – who plays Alfie Moon – revealed he had a front row seat dramatic events that will unfold at the Queen Vic on Christmas Day. He even noticed that he kept messing up his lines because he was so engrossed in the exciting story he was telling.

He said: “There were a few things that happened on Christmas Day that I deliberately didn’t read (the script) because I knew Kat and Alfie would be involved and I didn’t really want to know what was going to happen at the Queen Vic on Christmas Day.

“But oh my God! I sat and watched this story at the Queen Vic taking place on Christmas Day, and as a fan of the show I thought, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe this! Stop!”. “

Richie said fans will be in for a surprise this Christmas, but teased that this year’s Christmas story will involve “deception” and be “tragic and sad.” We don’t know whether to be happy or afraid…

Video from the funeral

Linda Carter, Easterners

BBC

Speaking of tragic, earlier this month fans were concerned that Walford could soon be hit with a shocking death, as paparazzi photos showed an emotional funeral is being filmed in the church.

The big news is that actors Maddy Hill and Danny Hatchard have reprized their roles as siblings Nancy and Lee Carter in the mysterious funeral scenes. Elaine, Callum and Johnny were also seen in these scenes, leading to the devastating theory that Linda may lose her life.

Linda has had a difficult time over the last few years, from the alleged death of her husband Mick to the guilt over Keanu’s death that sent her into a spiral of crisis. As a former alcoholic, Linda relapsed this year I ended up being taken to hospital after her drinking got out of control again.

EastEnders is well known for its red herrings and there is a good chance that things are not as they seem. But could Linda’s death be the tragic event that hit Walford?

New Year’s stunt

David Wicks, Eastenders

BBC

Looking a little beyond Christmas, earlier this month the director Christopher McGill posted on X where he was filming EastEnders for “most of the week” of New Year’s Eve episodes. This “epic” block of episodes has been in the works for several weeks, and McGill has been sharing teaser photos online every day, which we’re very intrigued by.

The director promises that he was filming in a room that is “packed (PACKED) with East End icons,” potentially teasing that some twists might be on the cards. There were also ominous mentions of both trains and planes, suggesting a massive stunt may be taking place.

There looks to be an explosive New Year on the horizon in Albert Square, but will the events of Christmas spark a dramatic series of episodes?

Preparations for the 40th anniversary

Bianca Jackson, Eastenders

BBC

After all, Christmas isn’t everything EastEnders fans must look forward to the coming months as February marks the show’s 40th anniversary. Soap will celebrate releasing another fully live episode this month, for the first time EastEnders has been doing it since 2015.

But this time there will be a twist and the soap will introduce an interactive element to the live episode. Viewers will be asked to vote for their desired ending to the love story, although it has not yet been revealed which characters it will involve. Viewer’s choice will be played out during the live episode, with the cast rehearsing a number of scenarios in advance.

Now that we have plans for a live episode, will Christmas reveal any clues about the mysterious love story?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show is also streamed on BBC iPlayer, with most episodes released early at 6am ahead of their television broadcast.
