The Wombourne car boot sales site allowed live music events

Despite residents’ concerns about noise and safety, a car boot sales outlet near Wombourne can host up to three live music and performance events a year.

South Staffordshire Council has issued a license allowing up to three days of events a year including music, dancing, similar performances and the sale of alcohol

More than 20 objections have been raised to the licensing of the car boot sales area in Cols, at the junction of Wombourne Road and Bridgnorth Road.

The approval was subject to a number of conditions.

Conditions include limiting events to Fridays and Saturdays, entry by ticket only, maintaining start and end times of 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and alcohol sales from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Under these conditions, no more than 3,000 tickets will be sold for each day of the event. Free parking will be provided on site.

Wombourne Parish Council, which objected, said: “We believe this app has the potential to expose local families and young people to significant risks, including exploitation, drug dealing and gang-related activity.”

One resident opposite the field said: “This will cause even more traffic and the intersection is already known for road accidents.”

Another opponent said: “Firstly it will increase the amount of rubbish and pollution along Bridgnorth Road. Secondly, it will increase traffic congestion on the roads.”

Applicants Donna Turley and Charlotte Whitehouse agreed terms with Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, licensing sub-committee documents show.

They said staff and marshals would be informed of their zero-tolerance policy on drugs, violence, drunken behavior and vandalism.

They said noise levels and crowd behavior would be monitored, and instructions would be put in place on waste management, traffic and parking.

They added: “Child safety will be one of our top priorities and adults will be advised that children should be accompanied by an adult at all times.”
