Armed suspect shot by officers, critically injured near 13th and Broadway

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Update: The Wichita Police Department said officers shot and killed a gunman who shot at several people and injured at least one person and a dog on Friday evening.

The series of events that led to the encounter with police south of 13th and Broadway began just before 9 p.m. Friday with a report that a man had beaten another person at a home in the area. Police said the man started shooting after leaving the house.

Police say a man pointed a gun at officers near 12th and Broadway and two officers fired at him, injuring him. The injured suspect was taken to a Wichita hospital in critical condition.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting.

An investigation is also underway after the body of another man was found in a nearby park on Friday evening. Police said a man found in the park had been shot. As of early Saturday morning, it was unclear whether there was a connection between the suspect injured by police and the man’s death.

A suspect was injured in a police-involved shooting in north Wichita. The call, which was reported near 13th and Broadway, came in around 9:20 p.m

A Sedgwick County dispatch manager confirmed that the person injured during the call was in critical condition at the scene.

12 News noted a heavy police response, including an area cordoned off and patrol vehicles with flashing lights.
