OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Police have released more details about the latest shooting in Omaha that occurred during a domestic disturbance.

Omaha police officers responded to a home near 44th and Center Street after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance from the wife of 25-year-old Nickalous Vallejos just before midnight on Wednesday.

Officers said when they arrived, Vallejos was standing on the porch with a gun to his head. Police reportedly tried to negotiate with Vallejos for more than four minutes, saying he was suicidal and brandishing a gun.

Ultimately, investigators said body camera footage showed Vallejos raising the gun with his left hand, at which point Officer Tyler Boyer shot him with one round.

During a voluntary interview, Boyer told investigators that as soon as Vallejos pointed his gun at another officer, he fired. Boyer and other officers helped provide medical aid to Vallejos, who is recovering at the hospital.
