Perimeter Highway and Fermor Avenue reopened after semi-truck collided with train

Traffic has been restored on the Perimeter Highway after a semi-truck drove off an overpass and hit a train on Friday afternoon.

A CN Rail spokesman confirmed the derailment occurred near the intersection of the Trans Canada Highway and Perimeter Highway on Winnipeg’s east side.

In response to the incident, the province closed Highway 100 east, which included part of Fermor Avenue.

According to Winnipeg police, several train cars derailed as a result of the collision. The 56-year-old trailer driver was airlifted to hospital by STARS in an unstable condition, but his condition later stabilized due to serious injuries.

It is unclear whether any charges will be filed in this case.

The police are investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision and/or has dashcam footage is asked to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.
