Dangerous sex offender John Macindoe has been released in Calgary

Calgary police have issued a warning saying officers believe Macindoe, 39, is at high risk of re-offending

The Calgary Police Service issued a warning announcing the release of a sex offender who, according to officers, is at high risk of committing a crime again.

A news release said John Macindoe, 39, was released into the community on Tuesday after serving two-thirds of his prison sentence. six years and seven months in prison.

He was serving time for burglary with intent to commit sexual assault, burglary with intent to commit sexual assault, burglary with intent to commit an indictable offense and possession of breaking and entering tools.

Macindoe committed crimes between 2014 and 2019 in Calgary while knowing his victims.

In one case, Macindoe admitted that on April 1, 2019, he broke into a woman’s apartment with the intention of raping her.

He found his victim sleeping on her couch, and while he was wandering around the apartment, she used her smartwatch to contact her boyfriend, who called the police.

A “rape kit” was found with Macindoe, which included zip ties, a large knife and straps to bind her hands and feet.

Surveillance footage from the woman’s apartment building showed Macindoe breaking into the building nine times last month, and a search of his home turned up two pairs of her panties and a clump of hair the length and color of the victim.

DNA collected in connection with this incident linked Macindoe to a 2014 sexual assault in Calgary.

In June 2014, the victim woke up around 4:05 a.m. to find a man standing over her in her bedroom.

The victim screamed and the man covered her mouth with one hand and groped her breast over her shirt with the other. The man lowered the covers and sat astride the victim in the bed. The victim was able to kick him in the torso, knocking him backwards. She ran to another room and contacted the police.

Police seized a bottle of lubricant found on the floor of the victim’s bedroom and subjected it to DNA analysis. In 2020, DNA was matched to Macindoe.

Calgary Police Service “Issuing this warning after careful consideration of related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that informing members of the community about the release of Macindoe is clearly in the public interest,” CPS said in a news release.

Macindoe is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, with brown eyes and brown hair.

He will be bound by statutory release conditions and will be monitored by the Correctional Service of Canada, followed by a period of probation. He will also be monitored under the CPS High Risk Offenders program.

CPS asks citizens not to engage in any form of vigilante activity.
