WASHINGTON, DC — Officer LaCarsha Garrett, a 16-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police, has died after what officials called a “courageous battle with the disease.”

Garrett, who joined the department in 2008, served as a member of the Seventh District administrative staff and was remembered for her dedication and service to the community.

Her death was announced on Wednesday, November 27, in a statement from MPD, which offered condolences to her family and loved ones during what it calls a difficult time.
