Second person arrested in connection with October attack in which a knife was used

In this incident, the defendant and another person, unknown to the victim, attacked the victim by punching and kicking him to the ground while brandishing a knife.

Officers from Sault Ste. Marie police have charged a 26-year-old man with aggravated assault and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon after event that took place on October 22.

The man was arrested and charged on Monday, November 25, at approximately 3:40 p.m., when detectives patrolling Elliot Road saw the defendant getting into a vehicle and knew they had a warrant for his arrest in connection with the assault.

“In this incident, the accused and another person, unknown to the victim, attacked the victim by punching and kicking him to the ground while brandishing a knife. The victim suffered minor physical injuries,” police said in a press release.

On Monday, the police conducted a traffic control of the vehicle in which the accused was traveling. The accused was arrested. “The search revealed that the defendant was in possession of a prohibited knife.”

Colin Wawia is accused of:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon

Wawia was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on January 27, 2025. None of the charges have been tried in court and Wawia is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
