Review of Ambulance Tasmania launch after ambulance filmed driving on wrong side of road

Ambulance Tasmania says a “review” has been launched after footage emerged of an ambulance allegedly unsafe driving on the state’s east coast.

Video captured on Thursday morning and shared Pulse shows an ambulance driving on the wrong side of the road on St Marys Pass in wet conditions.

The footage shows the ambulance completely crossing the solid center line multiple times and unsuccessfully attempting to overtake the RV on a curve.

At the time the video was recorded, he had no lights or sirens on and was driving slowly.

In a brief statement to Pulse, a spokesperson for Ambulance Tasmania confirmed the incident.

“Ambulance Tasmania employees are required to comply with Australian Road Rules when undertaking operational duties,” a spokesman said.

“Once the material is received, Ambulance Tasmania will review it.”

Tasmania’s driving laws state that drivers must drive as close to the left side of the road as possible and must not cross solid or double-dashed lines to overtake another vehicle.

Exceptions to these rules may apply to drivers of emergency vehicles if they exercise reasonable care and operate with lights and sirens.
