Man charged after burglary at Hopkinsville daycare

HOPKINSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A Cadiz man is facing multiple charges after detectives linked him to a burglary at a Hopkinsville daycare this week.

John Jones, 42, was arrested Monday after being identified as the person who broke into a car outside the Christian County Courthouse on Bethel Street that morning, according to the Hopkinsville Police Department. During the arrest, stolen items from the car and five Clonazepam tablets were found in his possession, He reported to WKDZ.

Detectives were then able to link Jones to a burglary at the Hopkinsville Child Development Center on North Drive, about a mile away. According to Hopkinsville police, security cameras captured him breaking a lock on a fence and stealing items from a storage unit.

According to Hopkinsville police, the child found a plastic bag containing a substance “commonly identified with illegal drugs” in the same location where Jones was seen on surveillance video.

Jones was charged with theft, first-degree drug possession and public intoxication after breaking into a car outside the courthouse. The daycare burglary resulted in additional charges of third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespass and trespassing.
