Man stabbed his ex’s new husband on Thanksgiving: sheriff

72-year-old man in Florida was arrested after allegedly trying to kill his ex-wife’s new husband, stab victim in the stomach on Thanksgiving morning.

Gregory Grant was arrested on Thursday and charged attempted murder, documentation reviewed by Law&Crime.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a 911 call around 11:15 a.m. about a possible stabbing at a home in the 10000 block of MacGregor Drive in Pensacola, about 200 miles west of Tallahassee.

After an initial investigation, authorities determined that Grant was temporarily living with his ex-wife and her new husband report from local news site NorthEscambia. At some point on Thursday morning, the two got into an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation. The argument culminated in Grant allegedly stabbing her new husband in the upper abdomen.

Grant was arrested and booked into the Escambia County Jail shortly after 1 p.m

The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, which are reported to be non-life-threatening. There was a sacrifice identified by WEAR, a Pensacola ABC affiliate as Alan Bingham.

Bingham spoke to WEAR about the incident on Thursday afternoon, explaining that Grant was homeless before he and his wife allowed Grant to temporarily stay in their home.

According to Bingham, Grant was “locked in his room” when Bingham told him to leave.

“He got very angry with me and told me to leave him alone, but he didn’t want to hang me or associate with me,” Bingham said.

Bingham told Grant, “I just want to help you,” WEAR reports. This is when the attack allegedly occurred.

“He had a knife in his hand, which I didn’t see at the time,” Bingham told the station. “I felt it (he stabbed me) in the side. He then tried to stab me again, but trying to defend himself cut my thumb. I had his hands… so I grabbed my right foot and tripped over him. And that’s how I escaped and called 911. Then he locked himself in a room.”

Bingham said he was “just trying to be a nice guy” and help Grant in his time of need.

“And that’s the kind of recognition I get,” he said.

The sheriff’s office reportedly said the incident is not considered domestic violence.

Grant remained in custody as of Friday. Documents show he is being held without bail. Grant is currently scheduled to appear in court on December 20 at 8:30 a.m.
