Allegedly armed suspect arrested in Surrey

Surrey police say they called in a heavily armed emergency response team on Friday morning to arrest a man who allegedly had a gun.

In their first press release as an official city force, Surrey Police say they and RCMP officers were called to a home in Guildford around 9 a.m. after a woman reported she was confronted by a man with a gun.

Police say they secured the home near 106th Avenue and 140th Street and attempts to get the man to come out were unsuccessful, so they called emergency services.

During an attempt to arrest him near an elementary school, Our Lady of Good Counsel was placed in a secure location, which has since been withdrawn.

ERT services arrested the man around 11:15 a.m. and he remains in custody, police said.

“No firearms have been seized at this time,” the release reads. “RCMP officers are on scene and the investigation will continue.”
