Family of person killed in Marksville, deputy involved in shooting during balloon release

MARKSVILLE, LA (KALB) – The family of the person killed in Monday’s officer-involved shooting will honor his memory with a balloon release early next week.

According to his family, 18-year-old Howard Williams was shot by a sheriff’s deputy on Nov. 25 and died the next day.

His aunt said Williams had just graduated from high school in May.

The family will hold a balloon release in his memory on December 2 at 5 p.m. on Scallan Street in Marksville.

The the shooting took place on Scallan Street near MLK Drive in Marksville. According to LSP, an Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy investigated previous shootings near the Bethune Community Center. There was an encounter with several people on Scallan Street, after which the deputy fired his gun, shooting one person. The report showed that a gun appeared at the scene near the person who was shot. The person was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
