SLED is investigating the shooting that killed a N. Charleston officer

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – One person has died following a shooting in North Charleston.

The police reported further X the shooting occurred Friday around 3:34 p.m. on Cherokee Street near Rivers Avenue and Navajo Street.

Spokesman Harve Jacobs said off-duty officers working at the Carta bus station located at Rivers and Cosgrove Avenues were alerted by customers to a situation involving a male suspect.

The suspect was described as wearing a black hat and brown jacket and was allegedly carrying a gun.

The officers notified the dispatcher about the situation and called for backup.

Two officers located the suspect on Cherokee Avenue and confronted him as he pointed a gun at them.

The officers then hit the suspect and immediately provided him with aid.

The emergency medical team performed life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cherokee Street was blocked, starting at Rivers Avenue and extending several blocks back.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the incident.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
