Two defendants after shots were fired during a chase with the Niepodległości Police

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) – Two people are facing charges after he allegedly fired shots at Independence Police patrol vehicles during a high-speed chase.

Jackson County, Missouri, District Court A docket filed Tuesday, Nov. 26, shows Raymond E. Geultzau, 26, of Lee’s Summit, and Harley E. Moore, 25, of Independence, were charged in connection with a pursuit with law enforcement officers during which shots were fired.

Affidavit of Probable Cause Filed by Independence Police Department revealed that on November 6 at approximately 11:55 p.m., law enforcement officers near Truman Rd. and River Blvd. I saw a silver 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with no license plates.

However, when police tried to stop the driver, later identified as Geultzau, he accelerated through stop signs in an attempt to pass law enforcement. Due to high speed and erratic driving, the chase was called off by independence police a short time later.

When law enforcement officers spotted the suspect vehicle again, they began another pursuit. This time, however, Geultzau allegedly fired several shots at the officers. After the officer’s cruiser was hit by gunfire near 17th Street and an S. Trail Ridge Dr. pickup truck, which turned out to be stolen, ran off the road through multiple yards.

Investigators noted that Geultzau’s vehicle eventually struck an embankment in the side yard of the home. When he exited the vehicle, he was stopped by law enforcement officers. A passenger in the vehicle, Moore, was also arrested and taken into custody.

Independence police indicated that a search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia and a Remington pump-action shotgun. Geultzau was charged with two counts: armed criminal action, illegal use of a weapon, assault, illegal possession of a firearm and aggravated escaping from a bus stop.

Moore was charged with two counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

If convicted, Geultzau could face a maximum of 77 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest with a $100,000 cash bond. Moore could face a maximum of 70 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. A warrant was also issued for his arrest with a $100,000 cash bail.

As of Friday, November 29, Geultzau and Moore are not behind bars. No further information has been released.
