Man arrested after gunpoint assault in DC

WASHINGTON, DC – A man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly assaulting another man with a gun during a confrontation in Southeast Washington.

The incident occurred at 2700 Martin Luther King Jr. at approximately 7:25 p.m. Avenue in the southeastern part of the city. Police said the victim reported that he was struck multiple times in the head with a firearm as a result of a verbal altercation with the suspect. The suspect then threw the gun into a nearby trash can.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated on scene by DC Fire and EMS personnel. Responding officers quickly located the suspect and recovered the abandoned firearm.

David Baker, 51, who police say is of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of unregistered ammunition, possession of an unregistered firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The investigation remains ongoing and police are working to establish additional details about the fight.
