Yesterday (November 29), police arrested three people in separate raids in Khulna district and Mohammadpur areas of the city in connection with the murder of Bangladeshi-born British national Dr AKM Abdur Rashid.

Those arrested were identified as Md Naeem Khan, 22, Md Zahidur Rahman Rifat, 20, and Md Abu Taher Sikder alias Shaon, 22.

Hazaribagh police arrested the three in separate raids in Dumuria area of ​​Khulna and Mohammadpur area of ​​Dhaka, said Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of police of Ramna division, during a press conference held at the DMP media center in the capital today (November 30). .

He said that after obtaining information from arrested Md Naeem Khan, the police also seized the sharp knife used in the murder.

How Abdur Rashid died

The victim of the incident, Dr AKM Abdur Rashid, a British citizen of Bangladeshi origin, had been living in the UK for most of the year. He came to Bangladesh from time to time.

Three to four unknown assailants entered Dr. Rashid’s house located in West Dhanmondi under Hazaribagh Police Station on November 15 around 2.30 am.

After entering, the attackers fought with Dr. Rashid. When his wife, Sufia Rashid, tried to leave the next room, one of the attackers blocked her.

At one point, the attackers stabbed Dr. Rashid several times in the chest with a sharp knife. He was seriously injured.

The attackers later fled when his wife screamed for help.

The seriously injured Dr. Rashid, covered in blood, was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

The victim’s cousin, Md. Rezaul Karim, had filed a murder case at the Hazaribagh Police Station on the day of the murder.

CCTV camera footage used to arrest the suspects

During the investigation into this case, the criminals involved in the murder were identified based on the analysis of CCTV footage located around the scene, information collected from the victim’s tenants and intelligence information.

Naeem Khan and Zahidur Rahman Rifat were arrested from Shahpur Bazar area of ​​Dumuria in Khulna yesterday.

Another team from Hazaribagh Police Station conducted a raid in the capital Mohammadpur at 03:30 and arrested Abu Taher Sikder alias Shaon.

Naeem Khan and Zahidur, who were living as tenants in the victim’s house, said they had an argument with the victim’s wife over rent arrears.

Naeem Khan and Zahidur Rahman Rifat planned to enter Dr. Rashid’s house and steal money to start a restaurant business.

As planned, on November 15, they entered the house with Abu Taher Sikder, alias Shaon, by climbing the wall surrounding the victim’s house to rob the money.

During this time, the victim, Dr. Rashid, felt the presence of the arrested criminals as she stood up to offer Tahajjud prayers.

When Dr. Rashid tried to stop them, the detainees began to struggle with him.

At one point, the attackers critically stabbed him with a sharp knife and fled the scene.
