Woman beaten, teenage daughter stripped over ‘water wastage’ claims in Mumbai

A woman and her 18-year-old daughter were brutally attacked by a neighbor during an argument over water. During this attack, the daughter was stripped and beaten.

The incident took place in Navi Mumbai’s Panvel area on Thursday. After the attack, the police registered a case against eight family members in connection with the attack. However, no one has been arrested so far. According to the FIR, the accused allegedly beat up the woman and her daughter and publicly undressed the teenager.

According to PTI, the family suspected that the mother and daughter were complaining that they were wasting water in their locality in Nhava Sheva area. According to reports, the accused also used casteist insults against the victims during the attack.

According to the report, a case has been registered under Articles 74 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), Article 76 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to disrobe) and other relevant provisions of Art. the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

In another case, a mother and her daughter were attacked by neighbors on suspicion of prostitution. The attack took place in Vaddarawadi in Belagavi district of Karnataka, in the jurisdiction of Malamaruti police station.

According to the victim, who has lived in the area for four years, neighbors broke into her house, dragged her and the woman outside, and then physically attacked her. The attackers alleged that strangers often visited her apartment. According to an IANS report, during the attack, the woman’s clothes were torn in a public place and the act was recorded on mobile phones.

She claimed that despite the seriousness of the attack, local police initially refused to register a complaint for two days. The woman said she then approached the police commissioner in the city of Belagavi, submitting a petition outlining her fears for her life.

The case was brought pursuant to Art. 115 section 2, 3 section 5, 331, 352 and 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act. The investigation is currently ongoing and authorities are preparing to interview the accused.
