A 61-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was fatally stabbed in south London

AND murder investigation comes after a 60-year-old woman was found stabbed to death in a house in south-east London.

Police responded to numerous calls from passers-by who saw her attacked and then discovered the victim at a property on Greenland Quay in Surrey Quays near Rotherhithe on Friday at 3 p.m.

The officers were accompanied by paramedics and the London Ambulance Service.

The woman was taken to hospital, where unfortunately she died Metropolitan Police he said.

A 61-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.

Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who is leading the investigation, said: “Yesterday afternoon we received a number of calls from people close to the scene expressing concerns about the victim.

“Officers together with London Ambulance Service and the London Ambulance Service responded quickly, but sadly the 60-year-old woman died in hospital last night.

“Our specialist crime command is investigating today and at this stage we believe this is an isolated incident involving a man and woman known to each other.”

A police cordon remained at the scene on Saturday evening and forensic officers were still on the waterfront property.
