Man attacks Kejri with liquid during padyatra, incapacitated

On Saturday, a man allegedly threw liquid on AAP national convener and former prime minister Arvind Kejriwal during a ‘padyatra’ in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash area.

The man was allegedly overpowered by Kejriwal’s security personnel and a sub-inspector of Delhi Police. The authorities later arrested the accused, who was identified as Ashok Jha, a bus marshal manning the Khanpur depot. Kejriwal started his march from Choupal in Savitri Nagar and ended at Meghna Motors in Savitri Nagar.

“Arvind Kejriwal was shaking hands with his supporters when suddenly one person, namely Ashok Jha, tried to throw water on him. However, he was caught immediately as police officials were nearby,” said DCP (south) Ankit Chauhan.

Police said they deployed their personnel dressed in plain clothes and in uniform, and also provided police security along the ropes.

Kejriwal, in a post on X, announced that he would visit the grieving family of the 64-year-old who was brutally murdered in Panchsheel Park earlier this week. The police official, however, noted that AAP had not taken prior permission to organize the padyatra.

Meanwhile, AAP criticized the BJP-led Center over the deteriorating law and order situation in the capital. “If the former CEO is not safe in Delhi, then where will the common man go?

Greater Kailash MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj, who accompanied Kejriwal then, alleged in X that the man who attacked Kejriwal was directly associated with the BJP. He also posted the defendant’s “profile photo” on Facebook.
