A carjacking suspect will remain in jail pending trial on Fulton County charges

FULTON COUNTY (25News now) – A Fulton County judge ordered an Iowa carjacking suspect to remain in jail pending trial for allegedly leading police on a multi-county chase last week.

Elijah Sacks, 20, of Des Moines, allegedly beat a high school student in Pleasant Hill, Iowa, and stole the victim’s car last Thursday, October 24.

The next day, Sack reportedly tried to carjack a driver on Route 116 in Fulton County and then stole another car.

Authorities said deputies chased Sack from Fulton County to Peoria, where Sack allegedly stole another car, and then to Woodford County, where he reportedly jumped into a lake near Goodfield. Sack was in the lake for about 20 minutes, after which police said they managed to pull him out of the water and he was taken into custody.

The Fulton County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Sack with attempted vehicular hijacking, possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated escape. They are all criminal in nature. Sack will also be charged with a misdemeanor count of speeding more than 35 miles per hour over the speed limit.

A check of online court records shows Sack has not yet been charged with crimes in Peoria or Woodford counties.
