Two people were airlifted from the crash site on U.S. 50 at the Iuka intersection

Two people were airlifted from the scene of the crash on U.S. 50 at Omega Road in Iuka at noon Sunday.

State police are investigating the crash, but say they are still active and information is not yet available on how the crash happened or who was involved.

Iuka Fire Chief Kenny Eagan says it appears the semi was hit broadside. The fire brigade had to extricate the male driver. The passenger was taken out of the pickup by passers-by and sat on the road.

Air Evac helicopters were called to the scene and transported both people to hospital in St. Louis for treatment.

United Medical Response and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the crash.

We will have more information as it becomes available.
