A comprehensive guide for Texas voters

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – As Texas enters its second week of early voting, it’s important that voters know their rights before they head to the polls.

If you are registered to vote but your name is not on the list of registered voters for administrative reasons, you are entitled to cast a provisional ballot.

Moreover, every voter has the right to cast his vote secretly and should not be subjected to intimidation.

This is one of the reasons why campaigning within 30 meters of a polling station is prohibited.

This means neither candidates nor voters may wear clothing or other items promoting candidates or political parties while in the area.

Voters have the right to receive written instructions on how to cast their ballot, and voters should always remember to check their ballot for any errors.

Voters are entitled to obtain up to two additional ballots to make corrections if there is an error on the first one.

Although voters may use written notes to cast their votes, cell phones, cameras, computers and any other device that may record audio or video are not allowed within 100 feet of voting stations.

Firearms are also prohibited at polling stations.

Perhaps most importantly, voters should always remember to bring a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport.

If you experience any problems while voting, you can contact your county elections official, the Secretary of State’s office at 1-800-252-VOTE (8683) or the Election Protection Voter Protection Hotline at 866-OUR- VOTE (687-8683).
