Two people injured in Needham crash, driver fled before returning

Police said two people were seriously injured in Needham Monday night after being hit by a driver who fled before returning.

Both people were taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Their conditions were unknown.

The crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Hunnewell Street and West Street, police said in a Facebook post.

According to the post, the driver, who has not been identified, first fled the scene but later returned.

“The operator identified himself,” police wrote.

Police had previously asked residents to be aware of the driver’s vehicle.

“Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark-colored Honda sedan or SUV. Vehicle parts left at the scene also come from a Honda vehicle,” we read in the post.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
