A second AAHS student died in a separate accident | News, sports, work

The Altoona Area School District is reeling after two students were killed in two separate traffic accidents this weekend.

Early Sunday morning, an Altoona-area girls soccer player was killed in a crash in Altoona (see related story on page A1). Later that day, district officials learned of another accident in which a student had died.

It’s been a difficult few days, said Paula Foreman, district spokeswoman.

“Losing your life at such a young age makes it (especially difficult),” she said.

In both cases, the district is providing additional high school counseling and grief support to staff and students who need it, according to a memo to parents signed by district Superintendent Brad Hatch.

Parents concerned about their children’s reaction to death can call the Counseling Service at 814-946-8277, Hatch said in the memo.

Foreman said that after initial reports were received, the district confirmed the second death with the victim’s family.

It was reported to be a single-car accident, adding that she had limited information at this stage.

A single-vehicle crash around 10:30 p.m. Sunday on Route 30 in East Providence Township killed two passengers and seriously injured the driver, according to a state police report.

The Mirror is unable to confirm that this accident is the same accident that resulted in the student’s death.

According to a report in this case, a 1999 Honda Accord, driven by Kaleb L. Strong, 19, of Altoona, left the westbound lane, struck an embankment, spun several times and came to rest facing forward. eastbound, in the right westbound lane.

State police said two rear-seat passengers were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the collision. Both people were pronounced dead at the scene. The adult victim was identified as Kamren D. Martin, 22, of State College. The police report did not identify the second male victim or provide his age.

The report shows that a fourth resident, Tyler W. Young, 27, suffered possible minor injuries.

Strong was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for treatment of suspected serious injuries, while Young was transported to Fulton County Medical Center.
