3 Takeaways As Blue Jackets Embarrass Oilers, McDavid Injured

3 Takeaways As Blue Jackets Embarrass Oilers, McDavid Injured

The Edmonton Oilers had a terrible night for many reasons. Not only that they lose 6:1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but lost Connor McDavid on the first change of the match. He did not return, and after the match it was revealed that he had been sent home from the trip for further evaluation. Here are the key takeaways from the Blue Jackets’ win over the Oilers.

Biggest takeaway: McDavid is injured and won’t go to Nashville

The Oilers couldn’t and wouldn’t provide much information about McDavid’s injury after Monday’s loss. It was called a lower body problem, and on the video it looked as if he had stuck his left foot into the boards when he tripped. McDavid skated for a while before walking off the ice, leaving the court and not returning. Ryan Rishaug reported that the injury was not considered too serious, but the fact that McDavid is leaving the team on this trip has to be a bit concerning.

McDavid won’t play in Thursday’s game against the Nashville Predators, but it’s too early to know if he’ll be sidelined beyond that game. The Oilers better not respond because the team didn’t respond well at all after McDavid left the field on Monday night.

Stuart Skinner wasn’t terrible, the Oilers hung him out to dry

The Oilers played one of their worst defensive games of the season. Scoring six goals in 25 shots means nothing Stuart Skinner look very good. There were a few goals he probably would have liked to get back, but the Oilers left Skinner out to dry. One Skinner couldn’t see, two were rebounding, and the Blue Jackets players were wide open. Another got a tip.
