Courteney Cox honored Matthew Perry a year after his sudden death.

On Monday, October 28, Cox posted a touching tribute to her Friends costar on Instagram, where she shares an old photo of the two smiling at each other, as well as a group portrait of them with their equally iconic castmates Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc AND David Schwimmer.

Cox, 60, captioned her post: “I miss you today and always ” and tagged Matthew Perry Foundationwhich was established after Perry’s death to help others struggling with addiction.

Perry died on October 28, 2023 at the age of 54 due to “acute effects of ketamine”. A toxicology report has been published in December 2023, he cited drowning (Perry was found unconscious in a hot tub), coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine as contributing factors to his death.

Two weeks after the tragedy, Cox was the first Friends cast member to share a tribute on social media until the late star.

“I am so grateful for every moment I spent with you, Matty, and I miss you every day,” she added written in November 2023. “When you work with someone as closely as I do with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I want to share. For now, here is one of my favorites.”

The actress, who played Monica Geller on the NBC comedy series opposite Perry’s Chandler Bing, episode of the fourth season in which Monica and Chandler sleep together for the first time in London to witness the wedding of Ross Geller (Schwimmer) to Emily Waltham (Helena Baxendale).

“To give you a little history, Chandler and Monica were supposed to spend one night in London. But thanks to the audience’s reaction, it was the beginning of their love story,” Cox explained. “In that scene, before we started filming, he whispered to me a funny line I was about to say. He often did things like this. He was funny and nice.

Cox was referring to a scene viewers saw in 1998 when Ross comes to Chandler’s room to tell him that he is getting married that day. Monica hides under the covers and when Ross comes out, she appears and asks, “Do you think he knew I was here?”

At the exit – which only the cast and crew saw – Monica hugged Chandler and joked, “OK, your turn!” before you slip back under the covers.

“We’re joking. He told me to say it… he did!” Cox told cameras while holding back laughter, and Perry smiled at her in bed.

This moment was there just one of many the two shared while recreating on-screen love interests. Friends he hosted for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004.

Although Perry’s death was ruled accidental in January, the case was solved it has since reopened. Since then, five people have been charged in connection with the actor’s death.

Perry’s assistant Kenneth Iwamasa pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute lethal ketamine, and an acquaintance of Perry’s named Erik Fleming pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine and distribution of ketamine resulting in death. Dr. Mark Chavez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine. All three were cooperating with the investigation to Perry’s death in exchange for a lesser charge.

Dr. Salvador Plasencia AND Jasveen Sangha (also known as the “Ketamine Queen”) pleaded not guilty to charges including conspiracy to distribute ketamine and distribution of ketamine.
