A child is dead with more injuries after a car crash at a Melbourne primary school

An 11-year-old boy has died after a woman picking her son up from an Australian primary school crashed into a fence and plowed into a group of children.

The boy died after suffering critical injuries in the crash at Auburn South Primary School in Hawthorn East at around 2.30pm on Tuesday. Victoria The police confirmed.

Two girls aged 11, one 10-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were also seriously injured and taken to hospital.

The 40-year-old driver of the car was detained and will be questioned by the police.

Inspector Craig McEvoy said that after arriving at the school to pick up her child, the woman made a U-turn and collided with a fence.
