Two pedestrians hit: man killed, teenager critical in separate crashes on Long Island

Two pedestrians were struck, one fatally, in separate crashes on Long Island Monday evening.

Nassau police reported that shortly after 11 p.m. in Inwood, a male pedestrian was struck by a southbound 2004 Ford Explorer on Sheridan Boulevard near Nassau Avenue.

According to the police, the pedestrian was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending notification of the man’s family.

The driver of the Ford remained at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

A few hours earlier, around 9:10 p.m., in North Amityville, a 17-year-old was walking on New Highway at the intersection of Pine Road when he was struck by a southbound 2007 Toyota Prius.

Suffolk police said the North Amityville teenager was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The Toyota driver was not injured and remained at the scene.

The vehicle was stopped for a security check.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact First Squad at 631-854-8152.
