5-year-old identified in Friday evening crash. His twin survived.

Authorities say the five-year-old boy who died Friday night in a car crash on Milwaukee’s northwest side has been identified as Jaylen Sloan of Milwaukee. Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Jaylen and his twin brother were passengers in a vehicle driven by their 34-year-old father. Milwaukee police said 5-year-old twins were taken to Children’s Hospital with “serious injuries.”

Jaylen died Sunday morning from his injuries. The medical examiner’s report indicates that his twin brother will survive.

The report said it was “believed the boys were not wearing seat belts” and witnesses said the father “had been drinking before driving.”

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and then placed in custody. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office will review the charges.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the fatal crash occurred on the 8100 block of West Hampton Avenue on Friday around 8 p.m. The father was driving westbound on West Hampton Avenue and struck two parked, unoccupied vehicles and a tree before coming to a stop.

He was driving a maroon 1999 Ford Expedition. The medical examiner’s report concluded that speed was a factor in the crash. The report said the collision was “head-on” and Jaylen “may have been ejected” from the vehicle.

The balloon release is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the intersection of North 81 Street and West Hampton Avenue.
