A remote learning day for Anchorage schools as heavy snow blankets the city

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Most Southcentral schools – including virtually the entire Anchorage School District – are closed Tuesday due to snowfall to allow for in-person learning.

In addition to Girdwood, ASD said all schools will be closed and classes will be conducted remotely.

“Today is Remote Learning Day, except for Girdwood PreK-8, due to hazardous weather and road conditions,” ASD wrote on Facebook.

“Employees should follow emergency closure procedures for their building or department for remote learning. A decision regarding extracurricular activities and rental of premises will be made by noon. Unless otherwise announced, in-person learning will resume tomorrow. Girdwood PreK-8 continues to learn in person.”

Heavy snowfall also affects Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District AND Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.
